Probably the largest event of 2020 so far ended on Tuesday in Portugal where over 2500 runners enjoyed a terrific O-Meeting in and around Sines, some 2 hours drive south of Lisbon.
36 different nations were represented with team GB supplying 143 competitors, making us the 8th largest national contingent.
The main competition comprised a "Middle Urban", followed by a Long (also a WRE) and two Middles; there were side events too, including a second Urban and a Night Sprint (which saw off two highly experienced Brits who both came to grief on the cobbled ground, and lived to tell the tale).
No one was really prepared for the strong sun and untypically hot conditions (around 24C on all but the last day) and extra water was the order all round.
The terrain, described as "typical “Montado alentejano” of Cork Oak trees with medium relief proving some climb to the courses" was fast underfoot and technically fairly straightforward, and suited the Brits well. Medals for the overall competition went to
W40 Alison High 2nd (now based in Switzerland)
M55 Clive Hallett 2nd; Charlie Adams 3rd
W60 Alison Simmons 2nd (running up!)
W70 Liz Godfree 3rd

Re: POM 2020
An impressive number - and maybe the last big event in Europe this spring? (Switzerland has just banned meetings of more than 1000 people...).
