This year's British Night Champs are being held at Hambleden on Saturday 22nd February. Hambleden is a valley side overlooking the Thames, between Henley and Marlow. It's an area we do not often use because land access is limited (it's a shooting estate) and expensive. But it is a great area, very runnable, undulating slopes and a very varied forest. Last used for the SCOA Championships in 2017, and before that for JK 2013 (days 2 and 4).
We will be holding the Chiltern Challenge (level B), also on the Hambleden estate, on the Sunday morning. Basic camping pitches available in the Assembly field on Saturday night.
TVOC is now an SI club. Air will be enabled for both events.
Entries are now open at http://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=2491. First closing is 2nd February. The Night Champs are level A, so you must be a BOF member (or member of equivalent overseas body) to enter. If you have not yet renewed, do give Fabian4 a few days after you renew before trying to enter.

Surely you only need to be a BOF member to become the Champion, could a non-member enter anyway but not be BNC winner?

BOF rules wrote wrote:2.1 Eligibility
2.1.1 The Championships are open to members of the British Orienteering Federation and to members of overseas IOF affiliated Federations.
So yes they don't have to be a BOF member to enter the event, provided they are a member of another National Federation
....although of course to be BNC title winner they also have to satisfy the relevant other eligibility criteria.
Why did I do that...

Re: British Night Champs and Chiltern Challenge
A quick reminder that first closing for the British Night Champs is this Sunday night. Same goes for the Chiltern Challenge, being held the following day.
Neville Baker, who is planning, describes Hambleden as an outstanding area for orienteering. It is classic Chiltern Hills terrain, with undulating slopes covered in mature beech or mixed deciduous and conifer. Any fields are in-bounds, and the limited path network and valley shapes make for a wide variety of challenging route choices in this large estate. Brashings and undergrowth are very limited, meaning fast times for those who can navigate at speed.
There will be a marquee to provide an under-cover event centre. Starts and finishes are all very close by. And basic camping facilities are being laid on for those wanting to stay over for the Chiltern Challenge being held the next day.
So do remember to enter by Sunday, and avoid the price rise.
Note that both events are UK Orienteering League events. To score points, for the Night Champs you need to enter (the long race for) your age class; for the Chiltern Challenge you need to enter the colour appropriate to your age class as set out at https://tvoc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/ ... 7JAN20.pdf

Re: British Night Champs
Sunday 16th is the final closing date for the British Night Champs. There will be no entry after that date, nor on the day. So if you plan to run it, make sure you get your entry in.
Sunday is also a price increase day for the Chiltern Challenge, so best to get your entry for that done as well.
These events are both happening next weekend, the 22nd and 23rd, on the Hambleden Estate between Henley and Marlow. Its a superb area, rarely used for orienteering, and the venue for days 2 and 4 of JK 2013. Details at https://tvoc.org.uk/.

Re: British Night Champs
A really well organised event, well done. Organising the Nights comes with a fair bit of extra faff and not that many entries, so top marks for the big well-lit marquee and the organisation generally.

Re: British Night Champs
Many thanks for an excellent event. It's a nice change to turn up just as a competitor rather than as an organiser. Pleased to see the rest of the small Scottish contingent took away some trophies. Plane, train, bus, lift, train, plane worked for me!
