Will the Russians be banned form WOC 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023?
They have been banned from "International Sporting competition" for 4 years by WADA for a huge centrally coordinated programme of doping.

Re: Russian ban for Doping
[NB, this is based on my interpretation of the WADA statement, I could easily be wrong]
If anyone wants to find out more about this, I suggest reading the statement by WADA, here: https://www.wada-ama.org/en/media/news/ ... compliance
Specifically, the "Series of consequences", of which the most pertinent to orienteering I've attached below.
Nearly every sport you can think of is a WADA signatory, including orienteering. The full list is here: https://www.wada-ama.org/en/code-signatories
Therefore, if the sanction is upheld, then Russian athletes may only compete as independents if :
This will probably remove the vast majority of Russian orienteers as they need to have been on a testing programme outside of Russia for a set period of time. Those who have been tested by RUSADA cannot compete; those who have not been tested at all cannot compete.
Russia is due to host WUOC on Smolensk next year, however if the sanctions are upheld they there are forbidden from hosting (and bidding for) WUOC, World Military Champs, and World Schools
They have unitl December 26th to respond to WADA. They can either accept the sacntions (this won't happen), or they can challenge them and the case will be referred to CAS. I can't imgaine this is a super-quick process, which means it may well be some time before we know the fate of Russia orienteering. But, once CAS make their verdict, if the sanctions are upheld, there will be no Russia at WOC. In the meantime, FISU/IOF probably need to start lining up a new host for WUOC next year.

WADA wrote:Russian Government officials/representatives may not participate in or attend any of the following events held in the Four-Year Period... (d) any World Championships organized or sanctioned by any Signatory (together, the Major Events).

WADA wrote:...they have been subject to adequate in-competition and out-of-competition testing prior to the event in question according to WADA, in accordance with strict conditions to be defined by WADA (or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), if it sees fit), pursuant to the mechanism foreseen in ISCCS Article 11.2.6.
