For those who haven't spotted it, there's a great weekend of world-class orienteering coming up in Newborough Warren next month but it did mean a super-early start on the Saturday morning in order to get there.
The very recent good news is that the organisers have now extended the Saturday start times up until 1 pm to allow those of us coming from a distance to travel at a more civilised time

The last time Sir Christian Bonington was spotted orienteering (circa 1995?)

Yes, Chris Bonington was staying in the same local b&b as myself...
Though what was extraordinary and disappointing, as he was about to do an interview at the next day's event, he just asked for a map saying 'any map (not of the area) will do'! Has he even been orienteering?

As a mountaineer I have huge respect for Chris. Reading a book recently (The Great Horizon , 50 Tales of Exploration) it summarises that for Bonington...in addition to raising money for research into motor neurone disease, Bonington is actively involved with many other charities including the British Orienteering Foundation etc. Is this so any more?

Are you sure it is in the Warren? I know we were trying to go there for the SHIs, but permission was refused? Is it not just Newborough Forest?
(the Warren is open sand-dunes to the SE of Newborough Forest as I recall)

From the final details it sounds like Newborough Forest which is one one of my favourite orienteering areas - forested sand-dunes - well worth a visit if you haven't been before, so get yourselves down to the beach for the weekend!

I stand corrected
But it remains "a great weekend of world-class orienteering" nevertheless (closing date for entries is next Monday, 28th). See Eryri website for details.

Bad news for the Newborough weekend:
England are in the Rugby World Cup Final!
If Wales make it as well, you might have to think about changing the date....

We're planning to watch the match before our runs hopefully in Wales against the Welsh!
Come on Wales!
Might be worth the organisers putting the last start back 30 mins or so.
