First use of LiDAR for Orienteering Mapping
Does anybody know when LiDAR was first used for O mapping in the UK? I am writing a report (current LiDAR project in Scotland) and am curious as to when we first became aware of its use and potential.

If you believe Nopesport to be a credible source of orienteering development, then around 2010: http://forum.nopesport.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10932&p=121736

Re: First use of LiDAR for Orienteering Mapping
Ha - I posted on that forum and I was reminded by a couple of emails that 2012 LiDAR was used in Scotland for the first time for the mapping of Faskally (scene of my recent triumph as M65 Scottish Score Champion). We are involved in an initiative called the Scottish Earth Observation Service and through this we already have some new LiDAR for the Scottish 6 Days in Lochaber 2021 (mainly new areas). I am just writing a project report of progress to date (and background).

This is worth a look, if you don't already have it: https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/ ... roject.pdf

Very helpful - I remember reading that first time. A few changes, including the DEM Wizard that can handle LAS files. Hopefully one day as part of initiatives I am involved with we will see much better coverage across Scotland or local low-cost drone mounted LiDAR surveys.
