Hi
I know there was one not that long ago... but I want to know if there are any people who are keen on getting a 1st Aid qualification or renewal up in Scotland before the end of the year.
I am trying to complete my level 3 coaches qualification and need my 1st Aid course to finish the job... I want to finish it as soon as possible...
If anyone who went to the coaching course last week in Speyside is keen then let me know... and i'll try and get the SOA to arrange one before Christmas....
Ta very much...

Sounds good so far.. I'll start asking around the north clubs... I Think we need about 12 to make the course work best (so I've been told)

actually, I rate the red cross outdoor first aid course as one of the best weekend investments I have made. But don't do it if you're feeling emotionally fragile! (judging by postings, Gross may be feeling a bit that way at present). It's not just valuable for "O" either. Could also be plus point on your youthful CVs.
I guess this flurry of interest may be a result of the Lagganlia rapid level 1, 2, 3 coaching course a couple of weeks ago. How did it go folks? Any comments on it for other budding coaches out there?
If you can't get 1st aid course together in Scotland, there is one running soon in WMOA, but no idea how the bookings are going

report coming soon from the coaching course... maybe
but it was an enjoyable, bit of information overload at times but well worth it... just need to do some paperwork and find some kiddies to coach now

I agree that it is an excellent addition to your CV, and mine too I hope soon.
I actually did my level 3 coaching course in Feb last year, I've recently been assessed but cant get the final piece of paper confirming my status as Level 3 (Club) Coach until I pass the 1st Aid bit, hence the original post.
Thanks for the pointer to the WMOA course.. any idea when it is ?

WMOA course is Oct 1st-3rd at Shugborough near Stafford. Applications via Jenny Whitehead at BOF office by Sept 3rd. Don't know if places still available. There's probably an application form somewhere on BOF website, but if not then there's one in the July edition of WMOA newsletter, downloadable from http://rodpost.members.beeb.net/wmoa/
In WM we're increasingly relying on First Aiders who've been on this course to provide cover at our normal O events too, as St John are sometimes unavailable, and their costs have also risen to cover their outlay.

Load of tosh......... always has & always will be the bigest deterrant to developing O coaching in GB:)
It may well be a deterrent Gordon, but a load of tosh? You'ld be open to all sorts of problems and potentially a far bigger deterrent if you worked in a club coach+ environment without this sort of first aid cover. And BOF would be irresponsible advocating anything else. As a parent and teacher I would be profoundly unhappy if my child was going orienteering without appropriately qualified staff available.
The BOF-subsidised Red Cross courses are a bargain. Locally the equivalent St John's course costs over £160. Unfortunately, the BOF courses just haven't worked out for me lately. Fortunately, I've persuaded my new employers to pay for me to go on a St John's course.[/quote]

They did one earlier in the year, brooner i think you went?
