Re: JWOC 2019
How many other runners had this problem with SI Air ‘failing’ part way round JWOC Long yesterday? A bit odd if only the second placed competitor by 1 second was affected?

And the answer is "none"...
"The Jury decided that the organisers cannot prove that the time in the manual backup timing system is the same as that in the primary system."
In spite of what people are saying, the actual decision is based on the backup being unreliable to within a second. Nothing to do with failed SIACs.
PhilJ wrote:Good "example!" of this was the adventure show, when the womens open race was live and the first runner (all runners were supposed to have SI air activated) swept over the first control, carried on running, had to turn back and dib the control, and then carry on (watch it back in iplayer to see where this happened).
Actually, it was the junior women. The top 3 were being interviewed when the race was meant to start and got hustled over to the start lane without punching the check box which enables Air mode. The top-3 remained the top-3 so the results were unaffected.

So it is as likely that the SI Air of the Russian runner didn’t fail, but was user error at one control, which she then physically dibbed to ‘make sure’ and subsequently not having confidence in the SI Air, dibbed all remaining controls as well?

Would they not have checked the battery before making that decision though?

Re: JWOC 2019
Middle qualification underway at the moment. Freddie had a tidy run and should qualify comfortably. The other Brits so far have had mixed fortunes. Laura, presumably recovered from her injury on Monday, was running well but made a big error at 4.
20 to qualify from each heat.

Looks like Laura has been forced to retire again. Not recovered from her injury after all.

The British girls have all finished now.
Fiona and Grace 1st and 2nd in Heat-1 at the moment, fantastic.
Eilidh 8th in Heat-2 and should qualify. Megan 15th but with some strong runners still to come including the joint gold medallists from the Long race. It could be close.
Niamh is already out of it in Heat-3 and Laura retired.

Is the British team boycotting the B finals this year?

Re: JWOC 2019
It has become standard practice that Team GB only runs Middle A Final, which has been a source of heated debate on this forum previously!
So today in A Final we have Freddie and Alastair in the M20 and Eilidh, Grace and Fiona in W20.
Freddie has finished and times look to be longer than yesterdays’ heats.

Both Grace and Fiona on course. Grace seems to have made an early error and caught by the Swiss and now running together.
