Was reminiscing on my days orienteering in school in the 70s. I came across online a copy of the school magazine from 1975

Page 13 sums up my O days from the 70s at Dynevor school, Swansea, the last sentence is the clincher and also the very male centric article - many “he” references. Enjoy. Spiffing fun...I never left home without my set of red John Menzies pens for writing down map corrections and my master map.

Re: The good old very old days
Ahh, happy memories. Indeed the marking up of ‘map corrections’ at registration was often more a case of redrawing the map! The marking of your course by copying from the ‘master maps’ was after the start, so quick drawing was as important as fast running!
But to risk a return to another thread, the JK in 1975, was in SCOA at Star Posts and Hawley (adjacent) to Minley and we had moved on to overprinted maps for major events. The elite men’s course (M21A) was 16.6km and had 188 competitors! It was dominated by Scandinavian runners (partly because WOC was going to be in UK in 1976) and the first Brit in 25th place was one M Murray, who I believe was on the top of the podium this JK weekend in M75L.
