So it looks like the wording of the message we got last night got the wordings for points 1 and 2 jumbled up. Agree with David R's interpretation
How robust was the system regarding competitor safety? Could it be relied on to accurately identify who was still outstanding towards the end of the day? Looking at the website of the company RaceProgress.com whose name on the results page they make a point about competitor safety with an invitation to click on a link for more info....that goes nowhere.

Not impressed I wouldn't have thought.
Compared to the always impressive foreign events as a whole and sooo much better value for money. Stick to SI I think ... or as The Isle of Man still do (and did this Easter Monday) using good old fashioned control cards and pin punching, but instant results clear to see on the 'washing line'.
Water at the finish anyone?
If you mean like in "the old days" then it was Robinsons at the finish (Barley water, not beer).
As for the JK then at least this year anyone passing in the vicinity of the water point was allowed to use it (I've been to events before when only Elites were allowed to drink at them).
Having one near the other main road crossing would have been good in retrospect had the weather been predicted - but it does cost time, money and volunteers to man a drinks station.

Meanwhile, of course, although the original incorrect results have disappeared from the JK website, they are available , at least for the first three days, via the JK Routegadget page.https://www.jk.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/
The TempO and PreO results, together with the maps and solution sheets, are available via the TrailO mini-site of the BO website

Re: The JK 2019
Maybe someone can explain why it's necessary to lock Routegadget while the results are being finalised - after all, correcting the results is unlikely to change our recollection of which way we ran (or what our GPSs told us we did). Does updating the results clear all routes, or something like that?

I realise it is less than ideal for Routegadget to be locked for such a long time, but performing any sort of results editing once routes have been added is extremely difficult to do without messing more things up, as is trying to reallocate drawn routes to a new results file if the event is deleted and remade.
As soon as I get my hands on any finalised results we'll get it unlocked, and for now you can still see splitsbrowser, as well as the fairly new analysis page that is found by double clicking a name in the results list.

Looks great! Is there anyway of making the font/columns smaller or the window larger to reduce scrolling?

Re: The JK 2019
So having recently been to POM (Portugal) O meet, they had drinks stations accessible to most courses on middle and long days. Each day you were handed a water bottle at the finish, and hot lemon, biscuits and apples. Entry was 55 euros for 6 events so about £8 per day. Why can overseas countries provide such facilities (same at french 5 day last summer) where its minimum competitor outlay for maximum fee in UK ?

Unfortunately not, we are in the (slow) process of overhauling Routegadget over to a completely new UI system as the one currently used is very outdated by modern web standards - this should make it easier to add a lot more accessibility features once that happens.

I'm flattered by the praise but the vast majority of work was done by Simon, I just poke him when I see something has gone wrong

I suspect it is the same company - the web address changes when you click through in the navigation. I seem to detect a logic that they publish "completed" results on race-results, but they handle "live updates" through raceprogress.com. Maybe something to do with how they host the processing logic in the background.
This is the first time I have seen them use raceresults.com - but then I was only attending their smaller O-events before and they may have used the live publishing system for other events in the past. If not, and if this was indeed their first use of the live publishing aspect, then it may have contributed to some of the problems we have seen. Clearly not all of it.

It’s because they actually want to organise the race and therefore care a lot more. This is NOT in any way a criticism of the hard work of UK volunteers, but the fact is that UK regions are told they have to organise races like the JK. This cascades down to clubs (and runners) being told they have to “volunteer” so they more-or-less willingly do their bit, but they’re rarely going to go out of their way to provide something special.
On the Continent, generally clubs provide bids for big races based on the fact that they WANT to organise the race in question. So they have real ownership and really care about what they’re putting on, adding special touches along the way. There’s also much more of a culture of roping in non runners (family and friends) to help.
In my view, the fundamental problem in the UK remains that we’re organising too many big races - JK, Britishes, JIRCS, xHIs, Regional champs, random badge events etc. So the volunteer pool gets stretched too much and we have too many average-to-good events and not enough great ones.*
*Not to say that this year’s JK wasn’t great.

You only need to look at the company logos on the overseas event's maps to see how much sponsorship they are able to get for their events. Also there appears to be a lot more support from their equivalent of local councils in wanting these events whereas in the UK (possibly excluding Scotland) we are probably seen as more of a nuisance.

I've often wondered why we don't seem to be able to get sponsors here when, as you say, it's commonplace for similar events abroad. I know things are harder across the board since the financial crisis, but almost every road race or fun run has one or more sponsors, so you'd think we could get some for the premier orienteering events.
