Re: International Women's day
(More interesting, I think, was the "preferred EWT" question: although forcing people to choose either the top or bottom of the current range was a little artificial, the preference for 80 minutes rather than 70 is quite clear.)

Re: International Women's day
Interesting that no one's pointed out that Men's and Women's courses are already "equal" in two of the three main types of race, the Sprint (12 - 15 minutes) and the Middle (30 - 35 minutes), or is it inconvenient to mention this?
That is, they are equal in winning time but not equal in length as men have better min/km speeds overall - so far at least ...
But don't forget that exactly the same argument applies to e.g. M/W70 as it does to the world's elite. We have a lot of evidence from multiple surveys of WMOC competitors over the last decade and there have always been questions regarding whether or not courses have been of the right physical difficulty, including free response questions.
I do not remember a single response in favour of equalising men's and women's (Long Distance) courses for the same age group - whether it be for equal winning times and certainly not for having equal course lengths.

IMO "Ignorant" is quite a good word for people who ignore what most runners want.
I wouldn't disagree except that it was used in the context of a gross overgeneralisation and therefore lost points for artistic impression.

Re: International Women's day
I’m sorry Andy but I find the Scottish Athletics attitude so irritating.
Some female athletes complain (only 2 that I know of) that they feel insulted by the shorter distance
Scottish Athletics assume this is the voice of all female athletes and change the race from 8k to 10k
They tick a nice big diversity box
Those complaining about the increase in distance are told that Scottish athletucs responded to the views of female athletes.
It’s not how you go about changing things.
English athletics took a more considered approach:

When it comes to Orienteering, women want a good long distance race with a big field. I think changing the winning time from 75-90mins is not the way to go about this.

Yeah I know and I'm really not disagreeing with your point. I just didn't agree with the way you said it first time. Thank you for making it again so clearly.
