On the subject of events that are good for newcomers (see beat the street post), orienteers could do worse than Halloween theme one of their local events, and do some publicity of course (might be a bit late now, but worth thinking about for next year).
If you want some amazing statistics from today's TVOC Halloween themed level D local event at Waddeston Manor
- 250 entries
- 170 IND entries
- approximately 500 participants (because so many of the IND entries were groups)
- 350 maps printed
- 90 orange course maps given out (before they ran out)
- 20 TVOC volunteers
- 2900 people said they were 'interested' in this event on Facebook (and therefore might go to another event).
Worth having a look at some of the positive feedback on the Facebook event too...

Re: Horrible Orienteering
Great way to attract and introduce non-orienteers to the sport, especially youngsters, and just how orienteering should be... FUN! for big kids too!
See some of the highlights of the Gruesome Green course here with many scary control sites, thanks to the efforts of Mike Shires. The map should be awarded for its artistic merit too.

Re: Horrible Orienteering
Thanks both. It was a great event to organise and plan, and very rewarding, given the number of newcomers we had.
