A strong finish from Hector, he ran away from the group that had caught him over the last 3 legs.
Alan Cherry has ditched Kratov and got away from him as well as they get onto the last derious leg

Lundanes is a beast!
Going straight when there's a nice option to avoid some climb. I thought he had missed the relay because he was off colour? He's certainly looking very strong today.

No, nothing like this. The WMOC long is in lovely runnable forested sand dunes with 2.5m contours. We ran on the area next to it earlier this week and it was great fun.
Meanwhile back at WOC, just had a quick chat with Alan at the end. He was surprised how soon he got caught at the beginning, but then ran a lot of the race with others. He can also report that the lake between 16 and 17 is as deep as Kratov is tall, but Alan only got in just above his waist when crossing it.
Lundanes just running up the run-in to victory.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
On the way back from WTOC (thanks for the support, in particular on Facebook) I saw the passageway with stairs on the map and went to take a look.
Here is the view (from the SE) of the view Kris would have coming out of the control. Note that the "Black Magic Bar" with the open gate is mapped as an uncrossable fence on the map - it would have been easy to run in there by mistake. You have to zig to the left to find the passageway.

Here is the view when you go through the doorway to the L of the "Black Magic Bar" the open on the left is the Olive Green:

Here is the first view of the pesky stairs going down:

Finally some daylight (showing the stairs going back up behind me, above the previous lot of stairs)

And now a look back from the street (note there is no "artifical barrier" here so I had some fun trying to locate the "entrance" !!). Note there were indeed plenty of locals using it - it must be a well-known shortcut (it reminded me of the ones in IKEA that only the staff can go through and know where they are going)

Cheers JK. Reinforces my original view that this was an interesting route poorly mapped and needed some marshalling for the duration of the event.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
I went through that passage way the same direction as the athletes yesterday. No bike in the way & the door was closed with a combination lock.
I suspect the kitchen door was open due to hot temperature
