Give them something that attracts them back (for most this is friends and fun) and they will stay as members... once you've got them along to a first training session.andypat wrote:Big Jon wrote:You'd get a similar figure if the event was held in Deeside but with Mor replaced by Mar
Well thats 2018 sorted then.....
Seems a tad odd that MAROC organised a training day on the same day that their neighbouring club were putting on the Scottish Score mind you.
The Scottish Score was between 100 and 120 minutes travelling time for our members. Living in the central belt you may not realise but there are long distances up north - we are an isolated club - even Gramp members don't often travels far as Braemar for events.
Secondly the Scottish development conference this year strongly supported holding more local training sessions = more opportunities for newcomers to try the sport and for them and more established orienteers to practise skills rather than attend yet another low key event.
Thirdly the SOA AGM passed a motion to abandon the Scottish Score.
The future of orienteering depends on more clubs putting on more training sessions and developing their junior members (and attracting new members) rather than a series of monthly events.
