Sounds like the kids had a lot of fun and experienced two areas that were new to most.
I also heard the Youth Hostel activities were brill. Kids don't remember the orienteering, but they can recall every minute detail about what fun they had. Keep up the great work!

There's been some discussion about whether EUOC junior members could count for East, and the decision is they can't. The comparison is that, until they introduced a "Scottish Unis" team, Haries ran for East District in the interdistrict XC.
But like Lard and Big Jon said, its not especially about the orienteering, far less the winning.

EUOC members are free to have open clubs, Interlopers have been making full use of that!

East last throughout, except girls relays Maybe its because the area are based to the athletics & cross country East/North/West districts, but rebalanced so that east lose members and terrain from FVO, MAROC and GRAMP (and EUOC).
Areas are not based on Athletic areas.
Not sure what you mean by FVO, MAROC and Gramp involvement in East weakness?

Re: Scottish Inter-Area competition
This thread is all a complete mystery to us south of the border.
However, if Scotland is already divided into areas/regions, perhaps these groupings should be used for JIRCS in order to give the English regions a chance?
Alternatively, given the number of competitions and the travelling involved, perhaps Scotland should not be part of JIRCS at all? You already apparently have your own inter-regional competition and can compete against the auld enemy at the JHI in any case.
Just a thought.

Is this the same England that regularly crows about winning the Inter-land competition - against parts of Belgium and parts of Holland (I think) for the 23rd time?
If so then perhaps England ought to consider split itself up for the Inter-land - sauce for the goose and sauce for the gander and all that.

Sounds like a good thought to me. What do the Scots think?

Yes the same England.
I agree that Interland is also a very one-sided competition (although we did manage to loose last year )
England did suggest to the other competing countries that we split ourselves up to make the competition more interesting. However they rejected the idea.

Re: Scottish Inter-Area competition
I can remember John Rye talking about this a couple of years ago. The proposal was that England should be split up into East and West areas rather than the more obvious North/South split. I think it was felt that East/West would give more balanced teams but it seemed a bit arbitrary. I would have been an Easterner, lumped in with people from Kent, Norfolk and Northumberland.

Re: Scottish Inter-Area competition
The inter areas is a little different to JIRCs in that it encourages younger juniors. all juniors that can get around a yellow are welcome to come along. Competing is very much secondary to making friends and having fun at this age - indeed most ages at the inter area.
The idea of splitting Scotland into regions for jircs is interesting, not least because there is so much strength in the Scottish junior team some very good juniors don’t make the team, which can be demoralising (says someone who only made the team as a 2nd year W16).

Competing in sport should be about making friends and having fun at any age.

I don't think Homer's suggestion is about the English wanting to win, its about making it more competitive all round - more people make friends and have fun (especially the Scots).

Ah but you see according to BOF Scotland is just a region....
