Has anyone used a chest mounted light such as this one on Amazon? I have a problem with a headtorch as I use bifocals - I lower my headtorch to light up the map but then can't read the map because I'm looking through the distance part of my glasses. Any recommendations?

Don't fall on it - not good for either your chest or the light !

gaw - this has been my problem with night orienteering as long as I can remember. I have tried all sorts of things including running with one lens but I find distance perception awkward. A secondary torch is helpful and I have now taken to using a small bright torch clipped in to a wrist band on the opposite side from my map hand. This lights up the map so you can look through the bottom part of your glasses. Maybe less painful than falling on your chest.

I'm no night orienteer but the wife and I found the two smaller torches fine for a recent night event in Porto (they're a snip at £4.99 for 4 - delivery free)

It's all about the battle of the lumens so a big headtorch goes without saying (compared to my old Achil Wonder and Petzl Zoom days).

Thanks all.
Freefall - I have a big light which has been fine, although every few years I seem to find it 'necessary' to get a bigger one! Eyesight has only been an issue in last year or so - I'll give the wrist mounted small torch a go.
Big Jon, how often do we fall flat on our chests? Not often I think, although perhaps with a light in that position once is enough!

As well as a small torch you could try one of the seriously small LED bike lights now available, powered by something like a CR2032 battery. I was thinking of using one as a "thumb torch" to have a semi-permanently-lit map. Easy to move to the best distance for glasses. But doesn't work so well if you use a thumb compass.
