Re: Rome 2017
They went for a sprint and 2 middles to give people a chance to do some tourism as well.
Knowing the ground I'd say the Elite sprint is likely to be more than 12-15 minutes winning time i.e. slightly over planned but the other 2 races should be within planning guidelines.
The 2 park races will be fast but not overly technical whilst the City Race should be around the Forum, Ghetto, Colosseum area which is excellent urban terrain.
Zarfo who is Planing Day 1 and controlling Day 2 is one of the best and most creative planners I've ever worked with and i'm sure he will maximize the benefit from both park areas. Young Jack is planning Day 3 and he is an elite who won one of the stages in ROMe 2015 so will be interesting to see his planning.

Thanks Mike and all involved for a great weekend.
A pity I allowed a Rome park to get the better of me for a second time on a Saturday.

You weren't the only one - a lot of people got beaten by that particular park and it was the decisive day in many classes.

Re: Rome 2017
Anyone know/can confirm that there is still a requirement in Italy for a 'Medical Certificat' for orienteering events? Nothing in the final details for the Rome event that I could see. Have Venice in mind, but virtually no information on the website for the 2017 event.

Re: Rome 2017
The Rome website made it clear that medical forms were required in order to have competitive runs, and provided blank forms. See
http://www.romeorimeeting.net/index.php ... 68&lang=en
It seems this is an Italian law requirement and not that of just Italian Orienteering.
I would advise you to make sure you get a form completed and take the original with you to the event, and send in advance if the option is provided.
I expect MadMike can provide more of the background.

Re: Rome 2017
As KP says this is an Italian law and FISO (BOF equivalent) has no choice but to enforce it.
In previous years the Venice race was organized outwith the FISO umbrella so avoided the issue. If the event is on the FISO fixture list (Calendario Gara) they should and probably will demand Medical Certificates. Just checked and it is FISO registered here:
http://www.fiso.it/gara/2017323
As long as you have a piece of paper or letter signed by a doctor stating you are fit to take part in competitive orienteering you will be fine. This is an annual requirement so date must be less than a year before the competition.
You also need a certificate to run in the non-competitive classes saying you are fit for non-competitive sports/orienteering, which is what I got for ROMe to run DIRECT1 course.
You even need a certificate from a doctor to join a gym or swimming pool in Italy.

Re: Rome 2017
Interestingly, one of our club members didn't believe me when I said we needed certificates for Venice, emailed the organisers and has been told that certificates for Venice are only needed by Italians...
It doesn't say anything about certificates on the Venice website...
@ MadMike, is this something to do with Italian organization?!?!

Very probably it is indeed due to Italian organization.
The Italians are entered by their Clubs via the NGB web site and do enter not individually so they may be ignoring elements of the law for foreigners as it's inconvenient and there is no audit trail if something goes wrong.
In Italy the club secretary sends out an email saying who is going to Venice and then enters the Club members en-bloc (this also makes car sharing easier to arrange).
