Re: JEC relay
...and I should also add; Congratulations to Grace and indeed the rest of the team for what looks to be a pretty good performance overall.

Its not indifference at all. Nor are the staff at BOF psychic. Someone needs to send BOF office the information!
Usually the Team Manager or a nominated competitor will write a report after an international race and email it to BOF office. It then gets published asap. Occasionally the writer may have access to the BOF website and can publish it immediately. Otherwise, as there will be nobody in the office at the weekend, you may have to wait until Monday morning to see any report. The office staff work very hard on our behalf:give them a break.
Sorry kedge but this isn't good enough from BO! They didn't even bother to place on its website last week that it was sending a GB team to JEC. Compare this with EYOC excellent coverage on BOF website in July....over a weekend.
And yes a very good performance by the team. If you look at today's Sprint results based on the top 3 athletes for each country then GB M18 are best in Europe and GB W18 second in Europe...
M18
1. GB
2. Sweden
3. Switzerland
4. Norway
5. France
W18
1. Sweden
2. GB
3. Norway
4. Denmark
5. Switzerland

Credit where it's due, so an excellent report on JEC has been published on BOF site first thing Monday morning. Still a shame that BOF didn't publicise a piece last week saying they were sending a GB team to Austria, alongside their promotional pieces about 'Reaching for the Stars'

This is indeed the system and it creates it's own issues. With three races in less than 40 hours over the weekend, I had absolutely no time to focus on writing any reports until it was all done and dusted - the only window was sat at the airport last night before flying back! Glad you liked the report in the end

Crap.... you make time for publicity, it's part of the function of a Team Leader.
If you are dedicated you will do it!!!
I've been there, done that & bought the tshirt... so speak from real experience

It's a very good report. Compare for example the reports on the British Championships which happened at the same time..
(edit: which were absent, but duly appeared a couple of hours after I wrote this)

That maybe so but doesn't change the fact that publicity is a key element & function of a Team Leader.

With such vocal public support I'm sure there'll be no problem finding volunteer coaches, teams managers, physios etc to staff the unfunded elite programme next year.

Yes, an excellent report right up until...
A brief transition phase will now take place before the squad begin their base phase in November...

Indeed, I'm with Scott and cbg.
The main function of the Team Manager is to sort out things for the team so they can concentrate on performing well. This could include dealing with lots of unexpected things like athletes losing passports, forgetting shoes, missing flights etc.(1) as well as all the normal administration of a tour.
Well done to the team and the TMs
(1) None of these things may actually have happened on this tour, we don't know. Even if any or all had occurred it is not the TMs role to publish them here.

Re: JEC relay
Many of the comments on here came before the (excellent) report was published. Many commented on the complete lack of news coming from BOF or even acknowledgement that GB had a team in Austria.
As far as I can work out the TM was also the same individual who is Heading up the Development Squad / Programme. (So it's unlikely that the TM went into this competition completly void of information etc).
It is a pre tour function of a TM & Head of the Programme to try & ensure the membership knows about the competition, nowadays it could be classed as a key function.
With another thread relating to funding of GB Teams it's even more important that the publicity function is covered.
From what I could see the TM / Head of Programme claimed he had no time to submit reports etc etc.... fair enough but I don't believe for a second he couldn't find the time. e.g. we have all killed time at airports waiting for flights and submitting an email to BOF would not have been impossible during that time.
Nothing against the team etc as they deserve credit for their performance.... but the vital element of publicity was missing.... a completely avoidable error.

Re: JEC relay
The TM worked his arse off all weekend. We had an athlete who missed a flight, which meant their return flight was cancelled, and a hire-car that was booked to/from the wrong place by the travel agent. The TM spent basically all of their free time dealing with the travel agents to get these situations sorted.
That's literally what happened
For comparison, here are some example of the news reports that were coming out of junior competitions when Gross was working with the senior squad.
2001 JWOC = No report
2001 JEC = No report
2001 EYOC = "Six British youngsters took part in the European Youth Orienteering Championships held in Czech Republic and acquitted themselves well. A full set of results can be found here"
The EYOC 'report' was a footnote to a WMOC report, and posted 12 days after the competition.

Re: JEC relay
Not much changed in Junior Orienteering since 2001 then
Sorry to hear that a flight needed re-booked and the car hire booking was screwed up.
Presumably the car hire voucher had the pick up / drop off locations on it?
Also re-booking a flight doesn't take long.... if you have faith in your suppliers and are happy to let them correct the issue...
I must re-booked missed flights etc 10 or 12 times a year... takes a short phone call and a follow uo email.... certainly doesn't take up all my freetime and certainly doesn't take up my free time before it happens....
Anyway.... Mharky knows what's he's doing and he was there I guess and I wasn't
