No, they're a dream We had them made about 7 years ago by our tech guru in the club. They are a wooden box with a fixed perspex front, which has the dibbing hole, and on the back is an aluminium plate, which slides out to allow the SI unit to be placed in the wooden box. This then slides back in and keeps everything in place. The wooden box has four holes in it (two at the top and two at the bottom) for the gripple to work through and the aluminium plate has two holes at the bottom to ensure that it doesn't slide out and allows the gripple to go completely through and be secured flat against a post, tree, etc.
The key to setting up is the prepare the boxes beforehand, with a kite and a small notice on it explaining what's going on (helps to appease worried locals) secured by the gripple, which just goes through the bottom two holes to hold everything together in a loop arrangement. You then travel round the control sites and release the gripple, tie it around the object and secure through the top two holes - bingo, job's a good 'un.
We have only had one SI unit in the past 5 years be lost/damaged beyond repair when using this set-up, so not only does it speed up the punching process, but it also makes the control sites more secure than having loose SI boxes swinging off a gripple.
