Has anyone run registered/official etc events using permanent orienteering courses? Ie no flags, SI, nothing, just POC maps and off you go.
if so, were they a success?

Re: Events run on permanent orienteering courses
HH has used the permanent courses at Highfield Park in St Albans and Stanborough Park near Welwyn Garden City for our Tuesday night Park-O Series - last week we had 35 people at the Highfield event.
SI timing just for start and finish to record times (they are 45 minute score events, easier than using a clock as we have the equipment), runners write down the codes on the POC markers.

Re: Events run on permanent orienteering courses
WIM have used the permanent course at Moors Valley, Ringwood, for various activities/schools event/Level D events over the years, either just the permanent markers or sometime a mixture of permanent course controls plus others on conventional stakes, with a flag or mini-marker on it.
All our permanent posts have a clip for an SI box to be mounted on them, but we've got fed up of replacing them (the squirrels eat them!) so recently we've simply drilled a large hole through the posts so we can gripple the control boxes to the permanent post when needed.
