Don't forget Yvette's medal(s?) at JWOC - a long time ago but still relevant.

Was there a JWOC back then? Didn't Yvette just go straight into the WOC team anyway? Just before my time as a coach.

First JWOC was 1990 - Sweden (I was there
These results are genuinely the best we have ever had - so hats off to the athletes and ALL who have helped them on their way. To run strong and error-free in this terrain takes some practice!
May this be a stepping-stone to greater things, especially WOC representation, we have struggled latterly in translating junior results into senior results, Megan is a fine example of someone turning this around. Bring it on!

Yvette won what was to be renamed the JWOC - it was the same competition, same European nations and just as hard... Estonia or Latvia in 1988 (I think)
It was known as European Open Junior Champs in the years I did it (1987 and 1988), and before that it was International Junior Match. It was European Open because at that time it was intended it would always be held in Europe but all nations were eligible.
Yvette's last year as a junior was in 1987, when it was held in Ambleside. I think she finished 6th. There was only a Long and a Relay.
1986 was Hungary, 1988 was Belgium.
I would argue that the standard is higher these days, because the only eastern European nations competing then were Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Many of the current states eg Estonia and Latvia were not independent nations at that time. All the scandinavian nations and Switzerland were competing though, so it wasn't easy.
Edit: I managed to find results from 1986. Yvette was 3rd.

Re: JWOC
Some background in the 'history' section at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junior_Wo ... mpionships
Frostbite - from that page it looks like GBR have never won a relay medal at JWOC, but didn't your relay team come tantalizingly close to winning a medal in 1988? 4th in the end?

Why did I do that...
