Re: WOC Sprint Relay
Thanks Simon, gives some perspective to the comments, that is a seriously steep slope, in a sprint ??? I wonder how much prewarning the athletes got as to terrain, as shoe choice would have been important in that very varied area.

Re: WOC Sprint Relay
I think they were aware it could go there. See Ralph's comment earlier. Competitors are allowed in the area pre event. I think the point made on world of O about that leg is a good one. The optimal time for each gaffle are very different. I'm pretty sure WOC 2015 planner Dave R told me that he had to make each gaffle very similar so this looks like a miss on the controlling front.
I think the planner was trying to split the runners and offer some penalty if you took the wrong route. Kris definitely had the tougher gaffle but it looks like he maybe chose the slower (safer) route then made an error executing it.
It's really tough when that happens. All the easier when you are pushing hard in the lead (I imagine...)
Looking at the map there seem to be maybe stony ground in places on the direct route to 14 which I assume wasn't runnable.

Not me! I enjoyed all of that course; thanks again.
