Goodbye Focus Magazine
A fantastic 50 year celebration issue - well done BOF. It's almost exactly the same amount of time I have been orienteering (the SOA formed in 1961 so events were well-established during my schooldays at Dollar). This is the last issue of Focus in the printed magazine form.

Re: Goodbye Focus Magazine
Some great celebratory and nostalgic content in the last print issue of Focus. But what about the Chief Exec's proposal to merge the JK and all BOCs (sprint, middle, Long and relay) into ONE multi-day event at Easter. How does that work then?

Focus hasn't reached me yet. but WHAT a STUPID IDEA that would be. Does BO not want to raise any income from major event levies? Does BO have a clue about what WE want?
Pfft!

I have my doubts! - but at least we'll save money by kicking the Focus hard copy into touch

Printing something these days is a bit too much, would be happy to receive it electronically.
Does this mean that BOF membership is £1 less each year

No, it's cheap enough!
Does this mean that the cost-savings can be ring-fenced and used towards the support of our elite orienteers, more like ???

Oh goody, I'm really looking forward to the first electronic version of Focus and all the glossy photos and write-ups about this member of staff. None of this elite and junior rubbish.

Agreed. So many people featured who had visions of the sports future and lit their fires. And others that made sure they burnt brightly and spread.Freefall wrote:A fantastic 50 year celebration issue - well done BOF.

Like you, I find the self congratulatory fiction written about BO projects difficult to stomach. I guess they can pull the wool over Sport England's eyes but the membership know what's really going on.
However, I think the Focus magazine itself is well presented - they do usually include lots of elite and junior content and the 50th anniversary stuff was excellent I thought.
I wonder if they considered offering printed copies as an extra (although I imagine Ravinous will be happy to fill that niche).
To oblivion and beyond....

Yes, but it never really understood that the members (well, this member at least) wanted to see maps to back up all the smiling folk on podiums. Often when maps were included they were at a reduced scale and seemed to be an afterthought.
It's evident that CompassSport (edited by a World medallist of course) understands very well that maps are the lifeblood of the sport, and is consistently excellent.
