Re: World Cup 1 - Finland
So anyone who can afford 4 Euros and is free for an hour at 2pm on Wednesday can watch, with English commentary, GB teams take part in the Mixed Sprint Relay that opens this year's Orienteering World Cup. Isn't the modern world great?
It seems to me GB have some very handy sprinters in Turku.
So I'm looking forward to it, a lot.
Best wishes to the athletes.

I wish GPS was more accurate! Looks like most teams are DQ'd already for crossing black lines my viewing!

That was fun 3rd place not too shabby. Might have been closer too but for a few hick-ups along the way judging by the GPS. GBR2 were 10th as well (2nd B team behind Finland)
To oblivion and beyond....

Yep, confirmed bronze and 10th. Great work from the teams, with room for improvement too, first medal of the season!

Re: World Cup 1 - Finland
Yes many congratulations to the team on today's good results. It seems from the bulletin GB1 all win Str8-compasses.
Sprint, Middle and Long to come. Good luck to all runners.
I vaguely remember a thread about the difficulty of including the sprint alongside the middle and long in the overall competition at the JK. Perhaps the format that applies to this World Cup Round is of interest?
Long distance has a chase start. The result is the order in which athletes cross the finish line.
The starting times for the chase start shall be based on the sum of each competitor’s time in the qualification race of the sprint and their time in the middle, minus bonus seconds (where applicable).
Bonus seconds shall be awarded to the 10 leading competitors in the sprint final. 1st is 120 secs, 2nd 90 secs, 3rd 60secs ... 10th 5secs.

POM is similar, and it's great fun. But this does greatly increase the number of helpers who would be unable to participate on the chasing start. It also means that the final day cannot count as a stand-alone event for rankings, UKOL, or selection races.
