Maps were printed by Hassall & Lucking. 6 colour layers I think.

I thoroughly enjoyed the orienteering side of things. This makes me want to do our sport a lot more. Maybe I'll stick to quality terrain local events in the future?
A move to the Lakes/Highlands/Moray would be required first though!

BOC is meant to be 1:15000. Whereas the last WRE long on High Dam was 1:10.
And the Scottish Champs area is surveyed at 1:12500, with various printing scales.

Come to Deeside (NE Scotland, that is) for top quality terrain and lots of local events in good tough forests (and even some friendly natives).

Generally, they did an admirable job of eliminating unnecessary detail. I guess different people notice different things, so I wondered ...
... did anyone use the charcoal burning circle as a navigational feature or as a control site?

One charcoal burning platform was used a control site (a late addition) and in general they were the safest way to navigate through the Rusland detail.

I also found the black circles very useful, particularly in the Rusland Beeches bit of the area.
Dave Peel switched these from black circles to brown triangles on the Wharncliffe map for BUCS as we both feel they stand out better amongst all the rock features. This would also apply to Rusland. They are land form features after all.
