Unexpectedly my login details got remembered from the old version, but no option to remove them.
I spent quite a few minutes trying to find details for the British this weekend. For the premier event, it's not exactly banner news. It's quicker via Fabian - which I know quite a few people use as their diary - except when SIEntries is used!

No you don't have to log in every time. On the home page choose 'Go Orienteering' from the top menu, scroll down to 'At an Event' and then click the link 'Find An Event' page. The Fixtures list then comes up.

Thank you redpossum. I clearly didn't think to scroll down the page and jumped to conclusions.

That's fine, if you know about it. It is not easy to find it from the current
layout (if it is at all possible) which is what a "newbie" will be trying to do.
The problem with "find an event" is that the 67 pages of fixtures (still) only
show the first twenty fixtures -- yes the same first 20 on all 67 pages
(at least it does in Firefox and Chrome).
If you use the "link" at the bottom of the "Go Orienteering" page to find a club
it helpfully puts you at the top of the "Go Orienteering" page (again) -- that is really
going to inspire newcomers (I think not!!)

OK! Now I'm angry! There are no coloured dots on Ollie O'Brien's events map. It's the only fixture list that matters.

BO changes (retrospective recalculation of ranking points for the last 12 months) killed Ollie's excellent ranking points graph and athlete comparison.
I suspect it is more likely Ollie will be able to recover from this one, but it will still take time and effort.

Looking with IE or Firefox, the first time you look at page 1, the first event listed is a TAY training event and the second a POTOC evening run and social (both on 3rd May, i.e. they've probably already happened as I write this). Go to page 2 and the TAY event disappears, the POTOC one now being first, and any other page is the same. Go back to Page 1 and the POTOC event is now first, the TAY one having vanished. The behaviour is the same if you filter the events first - the very first event is only listed the first time you look at Page 1!
I don't know how you got it to remember your login - on both browsers, once I close the browser, I get logged out (though if I keep another browser window open then I do remain logged in).

Re: New BOF Website
I emailed BOF to ask if the website was fully deployed/updated. Scott, the BOF administrator replied:
"Thank you for your email. The website went live on Tuesday but we have experienced some technical difficulties. I have passed the issues that are known onto the website developers but welcome any feedback as there might be something that I have missed."
So emailing BOF for the foreseeable future seems the way forward.

Works fine for me. All the facilities with dealing with results upload, event participation, finished events etc are fine and working as before. It took several visits before everything went smoothly and my phone is still not performing. I'll wait!
I think the screens work well on tablet, phone and PC. The screens are cleaner and less cluttered. Good job!

Has anyone found the map?

If not logged in I don't see the map at all (assuming this quote is form the Go Orienteering" page). I thought is might be my security settings, but perhaps it is everyone.graeme wrote:Has anyone found the map?
If I log in I get a personalised home page, and see the event map immediately, complete with multi-coloured pins.

Re: New BOF Website
It would be nice if the images at the top of the "Go Orienteering" page were links, rather than having to scroll down to the bottom. And the issues with page 2 etc showing the first 20 events are still there. I'll email BOF.

Re: New BOF Website
Hmm, I don't like the new website at all. Partly I don't like change (I grumble when the BBC News changes and things move from where I'm used to), but I do specifically object to the principle of hiding away lots of the content.
I thought the newcomer/member view in the old website was bad enough, and I think needing to log in as a member is even worse! All the stuff which is in the "Go Orienteering" menu for a logged in user is stuff which should be discoverable to a browsing/interested newcomer. It's what demonstrates that the sport is alive and kicking.
I'm thinking of the links to the various British champs, the JK, multiday events etc etc. And above all else the event map - if I ruled BOF this would be prominent on the homepage. Do we have a better graphic for demonstrating that the sport is available and active all over the country?

I quite agree. Having gone to the trouble of creating what appear to be logos, I expected to not only be able to click on them but see the "logos" again when clicking through them. But failing that, at the very least in the scroll down area.roadrunner wrote:It would be nice if the images at the top of the "Go Orienteering" page were links, rather than having to scroll down to the bottom
