Massive thanks to Sheffield University, especially Rhona. A great weekend of top quality racing and moderated banter.

Relay results for those who haven't found them - https://www.southyorkshireorienteers.or ... ucs-relay/
Would also like to add my thanks to everyone that made it happen. If you have any tips ahead of next year please let me know! Longer start intervals is one I'm already aware of...

Yes, thanks for posting the link. I was hoping to also say "Routegadget is ready" so that you could all see how WillyG planned the courses, but his 70 course variations are proving to be a challenge.... maybe by tomorrow.

Re: BUCS 2017
Routegadget is finally online. I've put all the Men's course gaffles into a "Mens course", and likewise for the Women. By selecting different runners, you can see how their gaffling differed.
The Ad Hoc teams ran a mix of Men's and Women's courses/legs, so are included in the two different courses rather than as a third course.

Re: BUCS 2017
Apologies to anyone at BUCS who found my mapping of Wharncliffe Chase or the northern part of the crags was poor. I did not know this map was being used but only the SW and S part of Wharncliffe was remapped by me for a 2015 SYO event. I, as is normal, remapped on the larger map and then did an extract for the specific area resurveyed and used for the 2015 event. Unfortunately, whoever did the map credits did not make it clear that my 2015 update only covered part of the area - perhaps they did not know.

Re: BUCS 2017
Hi Ian,
I thought a brief history might help.
BUCS organisation was all a bit more 'last minute' than ideal (I believe Eddie is trying to get organisers in place 2 years ahead for future years rather than 1 at present). I only got the Planner job less than 6 months ago. At that stage the area had not been finalised. We had a look at some alternative venues but permission was not forthcoming (e.g. birds nesting on Big Moor). Wharncliffe was the fall back position (as usual). By the time we'd settled on Wharncliffe it was the middle of December 2016.
My initial plan was to combine Greno Woods and the south end of Wharncliffe (as per BOC 2011). The first thing I did was to go back and re-run my (M45) course from BOC. It was not a good experience. I quickly decided that Greno was unusable and the flatter plateau area of Wharncliffe was best avoided if at all possible. There's been much forestry work in that part of the area and the vegetation is rapidly changing; a complete re-map of the vegetation would be needed and there wasn't time. I also had bad memories of the 2015 event (based on the south end of the area) where not many people broke 10 min/km. Luckily the landowner and tenant farmer on the Chase were supportive which gave me sufficient to work with.
My early site visits did reveal a few areas where the map was a little outdated but, with a few minor updates by myself, I felt it provided a fair competition. One area where an update was required was the part of the Chase where a temporary shanty village had been constructed for the filming of the TV series Jerricho. Other than that the main changes were relating to mountain bike tracks in the forest. The bikers were building new tracks right up to the week before the race. I added the ones which most affected the courses but there is still work to do to bring the map properly up to date.
Sorry I didn't acknowledge your map updates. I'm not really clear whose work is most reflected in the latest version of the map. I do know that Oli Johnson did a considerable amount of work leading up to BOC 2011 and I did acknowledge that in the pre-race details. Dave Peel helped me produce the map layout for BUCS and drafted the updates which I surveyed. These should now be reflected on the Wharncliffe and Greno master file.
