For those who like survey results. I didn't notice it was online until Scottish Orienteering mentioned it on facebook.

Re: Insights into the sporting backgrounds of orienteers
It looks a decent piece of research but from a publicity officer's point of view (mine!), it would be better to have a breakdown of the answers to some Qs based on age. E.g. how did those orienteers currently aged 20-45 start orienteering, rather than stats for everyone. Given that a large proportion of responders were older, methods of introducing people to the sport are now different and it would be better to know how younger people were introduced. Knowing how an M80 was introduced years ago isn't particularly relevant or helpful to guiding publicity campaigns now.
But there are certainly useful elements! Sport England research also corroborates the notion that the type of people likely to go orienteering are also attracted to cycling. That's useful for publicity campaigns, to perhaps target people who like cycling - via a Facebook campaign or emailing flyers to cycling clubs, for example.
Q4 is interesting - 47% of people said they'd orienteer more if there were either more events or they were closer to home. That compares to 2.3% who said they'd orienteer more if there were more events on high quality terrain!
