Who's read the new strategic plan then?
Anyone seen objective 5.8:
"Replace the online (externally run) Nopesport forum with a Facebook discussion page"
lol
End of Nopesport?

Re: End of Nopesport?
This seems somewhat questionable as a strategic plan objective.
"We want to develop our own online presence to better engage with participants and potential participants" - I could definitely support that
"We want to control all online discussion of the sport and shut down independent outlets" - that doesn't sound so much like something a non-profit-making NGB should be aiming for
The second thing might well be achievable if British Orienteering gets whoever owns Nopesport these days on side. I just don't think it's a particularly great idea.
It's also a little sad that British Orienteering don't think it's possible to create a Facebook page good enough to generate some interest without separately shutting down rival outlets.
(Plus the historian in me thinks it would be a shame if what is, for better or worse, the main record of the last 14 years or so of UK orienteering culture was "removed".)

Re: End of Nopesport?
Not only "replace", but the Performance Measure is "Forum removed"!
Presumptious oafs, at best. Dictatorial censorship more likely. A Facebook 'Discussion Page' will be moderated, probably to ensure that the topics "align with BO strategic objectives".
No wonder the Top 10 Risks include "Member resistance to change" and "Volunteer ... priorities may not be aligned with British Orienteering strategic outcomes"!

For what it's worth, I generally like the rest of the plan. I'm a little disappointed at the decision to keep producing four glossy magazines a year - surely there's a better way to spend a comms/marketing budget in 2017? - but there's some good stuff around getting people to transition from introductory events to competitive orienteering, and around tackling orienteering's image problem.

Re: End of Nopesport?
I am actually appalled that part of their strategic plan is to remove Nopesport. Heaven forbid there is freedom of speech in the sport of orienteering.
Why target Nopesport for removal? If they want to set up a Facebook page for discussion then fine but to actually target shutting down a forum is a disgrace.

Re: End of Nopesport?
Do Facebook discussion pages allow you to search back over the last 13 years of discussion?
I find I frequently search posts to remind myself of something discussed years ago. There is a lot of useful information about how to do certain things. Whereas I find it hard to find anything on facebook more than a few days old.
"We want to control all online discussion of the sport and shut down independent outlets", when did Donald Trump take over as CEO of BRitish Orienteering?

"Revistalise" I could accept but close down... Jeez.
Speaking as someone who's in the past had to ban a couple of users from the SOA facebook page for issues that might have been acceptable to discuss on here, I dont really think they've thought that through.
Given that a lot of the stuff on here is critical of BOF do they really want that exposed to the general public on their own FB page?

Re: End of Nopesport?
Is there a minimum age to join discussions on Nopesport? Facebook has a (theoretical) minimum age, 13 I think.

Re: End of Nopesport?
This is disgraceful, particularly re. Nopesport but also the disparaging remarks about 'volunteer resistance' as being a potential problem. Who the hell do these people think they are?

Yes but they will be able to remove all that from their own page where as they don't have control over what is discussed here.

BO have been remarkably good at expunging historical records from their website pages, eg, Masters Cup Results, in contrast to Nopesport, which is comprehensive and encyclopaedic in its historical scope

BO have threatened to ban
Nopesport, but I don't think they can.
We'll not heed what they preaches
And fight on the beaches
To frustrate their dastardly plan!

BOF getting too big for its own boots? Or just a single rogue person managing to throw in a personal hobby-horse of theirs?

Re: End of Nopesport?
I really thought you were making this up!
To have a strategic goal to set up better channels of communication is one thing, but to actually name nopesport a forum set by orienteers for orienteers is well out of order.
I am very angry. Nopesport has to be one of the best things that has happen to the sport since I start O'ing 18 years ago. Surely this something that BO should embrace and learn from, and not fear. This is a place where some of the most influencial and motivated people (their members) in the sport discuss and solve problems (and bitch a little).
OMG is it the 1st April please tell me it's is.
This has defiantly made me consider my membership and regional volunteering commitment.
