Re: Venice 2017
I went to the 2015 Venice which was good, but 2 of the 3 races were not in Venice itself and it was a bit spread out (Burano and Jesolo). There was an entry limit of 1200 but they didn't reach 1000.
2016 they got 650 or so with both extra races being in the Jesolo spit part, as well as they main Sat eve Middle in Venice itself.
It seems they have realised the punters like Venice for Venice itself - which is unique. The additional races this year were nothing special.
It would be good if these organisers could cast their eyes around at what other events are going on before settling on their dates. Certainly Bilbao as the new kid on the block will draw attention and would be my preference.
But do not also forget what is now the 10th anniversary for Boras' O-Event in Sweden. 3 sprints: Night (Fri), Downhill (Sat - there is uphill too but you start high and finish low) and Zoo (Sun - ie in Boras Zoo - not the cages!) http://www.o-event.se/?page_id=981 They are getting 3000 people at this. I went for the first time in 2016 and thought it excellent, lots of sprint variety and well worth ticking off. 20 mins drive from Gothenburgs Landvetter airport.
