Thanks Strider. I perceive 21 athletes as a very small pyramidal base for future WOC attendees potential. I'll wait 10 years to find out.
I'd also be very interested to know what Performance Camps are being planned for 2017 that simply aren't piggy-backing onto JROS and SEDS planned camps. These camps are meant to compliment and extend the training opportunity for our elites etc not form the backbone.

That doesn't include those that are on tier 2 of the Performance programme at Edinburgh (around 6 athletes who were in the squad last year and a few others who are either in or are on the fringe of the Talent/Watch/Development squads) and at the newly revamped Centre of Excellence at Sheffield (again a mix of those either actually in or are in contention for the various squads). There are then those who are in the JROS system, who form the initial base of the talent pyramid, and several of these will undoubtedly come into contention at some point in their junior careers.

£266k for Talent isn't "no money", but it's certainly a large reduction.

Re: Elite programme focus changed
No surprise is it really? Orienteering has been promoted more and more in the UK as a sport about finding control posts on street corners, even by the national team , Pokemon Go does basically the same thing and is far more fun for most kids so why would Sport England be stupid enough to fund orienteering when Pokemon Go does the same job for free....................where as Triathlon is marketed as a really tough sport, and gets £2million in talent funding, time to wake up British Orienteering or can't you see the wood for the trees?

Re: Elite programme focus changed
The article on the BOF page states that the decision on funding for "Core market" has been deferred whereas the article that they have attached containing the "official" funding announcement only states that the "talent" funding has been deferred for certain sports. The article also clearly states that the only other funding available is to address "inactivity".
I hope that the opportunity to obtain the "core market" funding is still available following the announcement.

It's over four years and is a 2/3rds reduction from nearly £700,000 for the previous four year cycle...not good...

Perhaps the squad and nopers can think up ways to raise funds for the elite and development. For example, none squaddies being able to attend some selected camps during the year, which make a profit for the squad.
