As mentioned above, HOC are putting on an urban event on 10th December 2017 at Castle Vale. This area in NE Birmingham was first used in November 2012. It is full of little alleyways, giving plenty of route choice.
The Routegadget map is here:
http://www.hoc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#18
Birmingham definitely fits the bill as "somewhere a bit more central".

Great areas and choices ... I'd be interested in who's planning ... So many races ruined/made by the planning team

Last call for any more. Castle Vale is looking like a good choice for the final.
It also looks like time to introduce some 75+ categories. (Ten-year categories starting at 40 were proposed, but playing with the running-speed graphs here suggests that M/W40 can still be competitive in the Open categories even at uncunning running. And 75+ rather than 70+ will cater better for the 50-55-60-65 bulge as it moves through.)

At most of the events I've been to, the MSV/WV course* seemed to be the busiest.

Re: UK Urban League 2017
The UK Urban League fixtures for 2017 are below, all confirmed except Lossiemouth. (Please reply quickly, Moravian - there are other Scottish options waiting in the wings!)
There are 19 races. This is one more than 2016, partly to make up for the Tenby / Colchester clash on 21 May.
New M/W Hypervet category (75+), with the best six results to score. Of the other categories, the Young Juniors (12-) will remain with five results to score, the Juniors (16-) with six, and seven for the rest.
Publicity is coming, courtesy of BML Print, CompassSport and TVOC's incomparable Mike Shires.
The series kicks off with a mass-start race at Belper on the New Year holiday and takes in the major events at Bristol (part of the Euro Cities weekend), Ballater (Scottish six-days) and, for the first time for several years, London. It also breaks some new ground -- should be a great set of races!

Re: UK Urban League 2017
Less than 4 weeks to the first UKOL event of 2017 on bank holiday Monday, 2nd January. Belper is a historic mill town in the Derbyshire Derwent Valley with plenty of alleys to provide route choice. Entries are open on Fabian. It would help if we had early entries as with the Christmas holidays map numbers will be decided well in advance and leaving it till the 28th December closing date just might be too late. Featuring the novelty of a mass start so head to head racing with instant feedback on whether you made the right route choice.

No, the first UKOL event is on 25th February (it's the British Night Champs).
You mean the first UKUL event.

UKOL, UKUL... what's it matter. There's no prizes, no shouting from the rooftops if you do well. Honestly, what's the point. And in a time of austerity - look at all the road miles!
One bonus with this sport is that the post-war baby-boomers, of which there are many, are full of dosh and free to travel. Enjoy.

That's when they can fit it in between planning, controlling and organising races.

As the people who came to the finals will know, UKUL has trophies and (since last year) worthwhile prizes for the category winners.
