WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE

Re: WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE
Good luck to everyone in the British team. I hope you draw some inspiration from team GB success in Rio. Orienteering had a mention by Hazel Irvine during the Olympics opening ceremony - there was mention of a "seniors" competition that included golf, orienteering and various other sports. Hope you have success in your prime and don't have to wait till you are my age.

LOL - I'm not far off your age! What was the "seniors" event she mentioned? World Masters Games?
Of course Hazel knows about Orienteering, she went to two orienteering dinner dances when she was at St A.

She just said seniors so assume it was World Masters Game - pity the impression given was that orienteering was suitable for this and not the main games. A lot more clear cut as a sport than some of the daft things we might watch at Rio - cyclists chasing an electric bike, people grappling at dressing gowns and dancing horses.

More clear cut?
To many, our sport is about walking, sometimes running, in an area of varying roughness, on a route of your own choice, doing a time trial, often wearing scruffy clothes. And that's not even considering the people who think orienteering = DofE
We know it's more than that and it's our job to start changing perceptions.
The other sports you poke fun at all take skill and training. Each to their own.

Such a topic probably deserves its own thread, but in the meantime, don't forget the Leibnitz Convention!

IOF&BOF have a breathless press release: A record number of territories will be able to see broadcasts from this year’s World Orienteering Championships.
Which is nice right up to the moment you look for UK on the list. Perhaps we should pop over to the Pitcairn Islands to watch

What is frustrating for me is that France does not have coverage whereas French Polynesia does...!!!

Looking good for the sprint finals starting at 14.40 BST today. With 5 GB runners comfortably through, all finishing in the top 10 in their heats, with Jo just missing out by 2 seconds in 16th.

Yes, good work by the GBR Sprint team this morning, but bad luck for Jo missing out by one place and only 2 seconds.
