Highlander Mountain Marathon 2016
This weekend (4 and 5 June) sees many orienteers line up for the 10th and final Highlander Mountain Marathon in Glen Cannich (taking the LAMM spot this time only). There are some very strong pairings and also rans such as the SOA's new Events Manager competing with his friend from CLARO in the Score Class. A top half finish is all they ask.

MWIS forecast for weekend looking really promising, mild and clear with hopefully enough breeze to keep the heat down and clouds off the tops.
At a guess I think we might get bussed down Glen Affric and sent NW around Loch Mullardoch before overnight camp somewhere like Glen Strathfarrar... but I could be miles out!

Some great results from orienteers in the Highlander Mountain Marathon including a well fought race by Johannes Felter and Tim Gomersall (3rd place) who just beat Oleg and Murray. See http://www.sportident.co.uk/results/2016/Highlander/
The bus took us up Glen Cannich to Mullardoch then it was a run across the mountains to cross Glen Strathfarrar before coming back down to the glen for the overnight camp, marquee, bar and chips. Sunday was a bit of a trek back to Cannich, but a fantastic cloud inversion was the reward after stumbling around in the mist.

A great event and amazing weather conditions, with some really tough courses. Didn't expect the B to be quite the test it was for me, or my right shoe (which had half it's sole hanging off on the start line of Day 2!!)
Highlander 2016 will live long in the memory!
Thanks to Hands On Events for their organisation of the event over the 10 years, and special thanks to Ray Wilby, Ian Hay and Alec Keith (all of Invoc past or present) who have been planners and controllers of every Highlander event between the three of them, an amazing achievement!
