I agree, perhaps it is the Men gaffled vs Women part which needs looking at to make it work better.

Re: (Trial) British Mixed Sprint Relay Champs
If it is critical to the idea that it is 'Mixed' then a three leg MWM fits the demographic slightly better than a four leg WMMW, although entrants at the British Sprint this year does not seem to indicate there are as few Women interested in Sprints as might be thought. W - 423 versus M - 646. Even just comparing the Open classes there were W - 80 versus M - 124.
Also why would the course lengths M/W need to be any different? After all there was only 0.4 km difference in the Open class finals. Then there is surely no need for additional gaffling.
Running twice though has to be a no. It either favours a second run or will overcomplicate it for the planner to ensure the second run is in a new area.

Re: (Trial) British Mixed Sprint Relay Champs
I looked at the ranking list data a few months ago, when gg first proposed the idea, based on a working assumption that an Open team would need something like 2 x M runners with average ranking points of about 1300+, and 2 x W with scores of 1200+. (Even those thresholds include a fair number of M/W 40/45/50/55s). There are only about 10 clubs who could field such a MWWM team, with about a further 5 second/third teams. So a maximum of 10-15 teams, assuming both that everyone is available to run; and none of the older runners are diverted onto separate vets courses.
And if one aim is for all potential WOC MSR competitors to be able to run - which would seem a good idea - there might also be a need to permit inter-club (NC?) teams.

We already have rules to allow Neighbouring Club Alliances for premier classes in our big relays, intended for exactly that scenario.

Then pair the middle with the nights. And BOC stays as BOC.
Like the idea.

I'm not sure that is a realistic aim. Probably more relevant for the British Squad to be competing as a team in bigger events against the stronger countries. Of course if we can tempt the other countries to come to our champs...
