Shameless plug alert!
Entries are beginning to come in for the Cambridge Science City Sprints at the Cambridge Science Park and North Cambridge on Saturday May 7th.
Simon Errington, the controller, has been spending time in the two areas and reports that North Cambridge is an excellent sprint area and better than some areas used recently for British Sprints Championships.
It is good to report that both areas will be used for junior courses so they will get full value for money!
Start times are currently being finalised but are likely to be between 10.30 to 1.30.

Re: Cambridge Science City Sprints May 7th 2016
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the races - good areas, well-planned courses and clear maps - my mistakes were definitely all my own fault! I hope there will be an opportunity to run there again.
The narrow cut-throughs, so crucial to this type of race, seemed clearer on these maps than I've seen before - was there a slight difference in how they were drawn, or just high-quality printing?

Must agree. Fantastic event. Two very good, clear maps, great planning and lots to keep you on your toes! Cambridge North was an amazing area - you couldn't let up even for a few seconds, as I found to my cost! Hope both areas can be used again. The British Champs has a lot to look up to if it is to get anywhere near the technicality of Cambridge North

Agree wholeheartedly with Roadrunner and Tatty. Thanks to all involved. The first half of Cambridge North was really tricky at speed and I nearly lost it a couple of times.

From the mapper/planner.....
The narrow passages were all widened - and my rule was that if you couldn't draw an uncrossable wall symbol down the middle of a passage and still be able to see a sliver of tarmac on either side of it, then the passage wasn't wide enough. The high-quality map printing which we hoped for wasn't as high quality as it should have been (we think this is due to sending purple pen files instead of OCAD exports), but it was still good enough.

Re: Cambridge Science City Sprints May 7th 2016
A brilliant day - 2 contrasting areas requiring different techniques and a much better format than the British Sprints with its complicated heats and different finals. Simply have a course on each area, allocated times but punching start and add the two times together. Removes all the complications of having to resolve any issues from the heats before creating the start list for the finals. Competitors able to run the two races back to back if they wish or have a longer rest between. None of the unfairness when one of the heats ends up with one or two top competitors not running, etc.
Thank you to all concerned, well worth the trip.

Probably they actually were drawn, and opposed to computer-generated from digital basemap.
Minimum gap of 0.4mm is great for legibility (ISSOM minimum is 0.15). Personally, I use smaller gaps if the cut through is hard to see on the ground (e.g. closes in Edinburgh). But I often wonder if anyone uses that information?

The UK is one of the few countries where there are heats and finals for the sprints.
Most others I know just have the one race (like for middle/long).
My preference would be just the one race plus a sprint relay as the other race.
