I can't find any mention of results (live or otherwise) on the JK site, so after some URL guessing it looks like results will be going up here: http://www.siresults.co.uk/2016/JK/
Hope everyone there has fun!

Re: JK Results
I think there was a lot of talk about Wass not being very nice before today. Course 12 was good with variety and a nice more complex area at the end.
I wouldn't like to try the same when the undergrowth gets going though but at this time of year it was fine. Luckily the rain held off.
Thanks to all involved. I do have one question about print colours on a map that I'll raise with the right people to see what happened.

I didn't go but routegadget looks surprisngly interesting compared to what I expected. Guess the courses all stuck to the lower (more interesting) slopes compared to 1994? when it was really quite boring.
Actually the thought of running on Wass contributed to me not coming along, so in future if there is a much better part of an area being used than previously, it's worth emphasising that more in the pre race information.

Good luck to those doing 20.1km tomorrow... Interesting to see the winning time. Always thought they should of done the 20+km way back at clumber park when we had our 19.6 but someone has done it now. Glad I have just over half of it...

Looks like it was a little on the optimistic side, although with gg bailing out we'll never know whether it was possible to complete in under 100 minutes!

At JK95, Kilnsey was won in under 80 mins for 16.2km. GGs speed at the SHIs would have given a time of 101-103 (on the adjacent area, over a shorter but rougher course). Earlier in the day, looking at times being recorded in the rather better conditions than GG and others faced, several people far more experienced at elite orienteering than me reckoned it could go under 100.
Personally, it wasn't intended that the top Brits go under 100. My remit was to plan for the best, whether they are there or not, and the best Brits are some minutes down on the very best. So the question is not could GG (much as I respect him) go under 100, but could Georgiou or Hubmann?
Should I have planned for those conditions? That hail lasted approximately 30 minutes. In the five days I spent pretty much continuously on the area beforehand, that was by far the worst 30 minutes experienced. In fact, in the year or so I've been working on the area, that is the second worst I've had.
So, optimistic? I'd argue not. But I'll leave it for others to judge whether it was a genuine elite long distance course. I'd just ask that people separate out the course from the conditions.

Re: JK Results
Didn't see any hail because I was stuck in the desert . But compared with last year, most people who finished in the top 20 or so on M21 were around 10-20 mins slower. Last year was won in 86, so if your target for this year was 100 ...

On reflection, I think those were probably the worse weather conditions I have ever been out in, in my entire life.

Well, hurrah that someone is prepared to put on a proper-length M21E Long at a mainstream event in the UK. Despite lacking the fitness to properly enjoy it - that climb back up the hill from the spectator control nearly killed me - I thought it was a great course on a great area, and I don't find it at all difficult to believe that, in the absence of apocalyptic hailstorms, Hubmann could have run 5-minute kilometres.

Re: JK Results
Overall, I thought that was an excellent JK. Four excellent courses on four good (and varied) areas, with Wass in particular surpassing expectations and being well suited to middle-style planning.
Some organisational highlights as well: a UK major event with an appropriate number of portaloos, and bussing that actually worked! It's definitely a nice change not to have "standing in queues" as one of the abiding memories of the weekend.
The only real disappointment was the inadequate number of SI boxes through the early controls in the relay today, which should have been easily avoided, but which didn't take too much away from some fun head-to-head racing.
We're definitely taking away some positive memories of orienteering in Yorkshire, so thanks to all the officials and volunteers - particularly anyone who had an outside job on Sunday afternoon...

Re: JK Results
Must agree wholeheartedly with Scott regarding the organising highlights. Loos were more than adequate, the bussing great, despite having one bus stuck in the field up at Kilnsey. Having the huge Shelter marquees was a life saver for many people, especially those of us who had too few members there to justify taking a club tent. Well done to all in YHOA for really delivering a top class event. Such a shame regarding the weather on Sunday and early Monday. Many thanks.

It was very strange collecting in controls, with all indications that any orienteer had passed completely obliterated by the snow.
But you should have been at Yockenthwaite 3 years ago, a few miles up the Valley. That was real weather.

Thanks to all officials for a varied set of areas and running the events under testing conditions. Still wonder about control 4 (77) on M65L at Kilnsey - over half the competitors lost time at this control, including 5 minutes by winner Andy Hemsted. I should have retired there, instead on carrying on into the later hailstorm - not been in weather like that for a long time, and sorry for those officials sat out in it.
