So, is this a summary for future years?
1. Entries should close two weeks ahead of British Championships to allow for printing and dealing with the bumping of lower ranked competitors
2. Entries must not close ahead of the entry date
3. W21L(E) and M21L(E) should have a minimum number of allocated entry places that are not affected by entries in other classes
4. The maximum number of slots available for BNC courses should be published in advance so that participants understand the risk of being bumped
5. Students should be offered the junior rate at all British Championships
6. Organisers of events in the Midlands should expect higher than average participation
7. Competitors want the British Night Orienteering Championships to be treated by British Orienteering as one of the year’s major events.

no.7 - yes in terms of promotion, publicity etc., but not sure organisers will want all the extra bureaucracy, baggage and constraints which seem to go with long/classic British Champs, and suspect competitors will not want the consequential higher entry fees.

RobL....
Why should:
5: Students be offered a lower rate rather than unemployed, pensioners etc etc. Most student orienteers come from wealthy middle class families (and Scottish students don't pay.... jajajaja )
4: Defeats the purpose of 1 & 2
6: Make BNC an urban event then terrain doesn't enter the equation.... neither does borienteering jajajaja

Re: British Night Championship 2016
Can someone remind me where we are with BOF involvement with "major" events?
I thought BOF had already dropped out of any organisational or financial involvement with BNC, and were proposing to drop out similarly from BOC/BRC/BSC/BMC, leaving them to clubs and or associations. So essentially the only future involvement (and thus role for the Major Events Manager) would be for the JK and perhaps any World Cup or other International.
Are these proposals agreed / rejected /still up for discussion?

Not sure why this is considered more equitable than what has happened this time. This will make a British Championships selective rather than open and hardly encourage 'lower ranked' orienteers to enter only to later be told they are not worthy.

Re: British Night Championship 2016
With an earlier closing date bumping really shouldn't be necessary unless there are more entries than available start slots in any one class. At BNC, with say 80 start slots, this seems unlikely to be an issue any time soon.
It might mean additional course(s), and some reallocation of classes between courses after the closing date, but this is something the planner could/should have a contingency plan for anyway.

Because the aim of the British Chamionships is to determine who is the British Champion. ie who is fastest at running through the forest not who is fastest at at organising their entry.

Laser printing would have been acceptable to me, though I think 1:7,500 would have been better, even with offset litho, for this area in the dark.
Lost considerable time on the same ruined fence control - twice, once out, once back - where I found more fence remnants on the ground than I could see on the map.

The closing date for entries must precede the printing of the maps for an event at this level. This should be a rule. A closing date two, or three, weeks in advance of the race is quite acceptable.

... and the window between last starts and course closing should be sufficient to allow the fastest to win.

Ah so we've now moved on from night events not being suitable for earning ranking points to being excluded from night events due to insufficient ranking points??
Well all I can say is lucky for me I'm currently ranked higher than that Scott Fraser then eh!
