Sad news, one of the pioneers, John Disley has died
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/wales/25749606
I first got to hear of him when the Midland Championships start was outside a relative's house at Haye Park (Bringewood) in 1969. Great excitement with Chris Brasher , John Disley and Gordon Pirie turning up - complaining about the hills and fight.

Re: John Disley
I recall seeing both John's and Chris Brasher's names in the results from the first November Classic in 1968, when they were republished and it was rerun on the 40th anniversary.

Re: John Disley
John was the first editor 'The Orienteer', c. 1967/68, and co-founder of SN (1965), author and editor of books including the 1967 'Orienteering' published by Faber & Faber that makes interesting reading today! Brasher & Disley were also frequent Mountain Marathon partners.
