Here at nopesport we believe in free speech and a flowing discussion of ideas. We also believe in supporting British athletes and following their progress. Sometimes howeer things can go too far and become unconstructive and dangerous, so we've pulled the discussion for now.
If you don't like this there are plenty of other places to go and waste your time. Alternatively why not go for a nice run followed by a quiet drink.

Re: That thread
It's your site so it's your decision (I did try to buy a share last year but never got close )
However, I don't think it's fair to label the discussion as "unconstructive and dangerous". On the contrary, I was surprised at how constructive the comments generally were, and the absence of any shouting / swearing / flaming etc.

Re: That thread
That thread went too far and became unconstructive and dangerous in the opinion of the nopesport 'cartel'.
It can also be unconstructive and dangerous when one individual, group or organisation has too much power and is able to silence independent voices.
The UK orienteering magazine Compass sport originally emerged as a voice independent of the governing body of the sport. Current Editor of the magazine started That thread.
Around 2003-2004 nopesport emerged as an online orienteering community independent of British Orienteering. The nopesport cartel was made of several members and decisions were taken as a group so there was always a balance of power and opinions.
How is the balance of power now?
Pyrat: Co-creator with Andy Lobban. Did 90%(+?) of the technical work behind nopesport and was admin for the hosting / bill paying for 10 years. No longer involved with nopesport. Still minimally involved in orienteering competing in 2-3 races a year mostly bedriftsorientering in the Trondheim area. He mostly keeps it real and local scene but did run several stages of the S6D last summer. Passed on news of the incident that started That thread to me in mid-late August. (source: the man himself / myself)
Brooner: Lives in Australia, took over the nopesport hosting costs from Pyrat in ca.2014(?). Still in the UK orienteering loop since he sent news of the incident that started That thread by sms to the USA (source: personal email communication)
Wattok: Unknown.
Rocky: Ran WOCs 2010-2015 for GB. (source: WOC results)
Ed Nicholas: (I can't remember his nopesport alias) Works as a Team Manager for the British team. (source: facebook photos and rumour).
Andy Lobban was also involved in the early years as co-creator/ designer but has not been involved with nopesport for a long time. (source: pyrat).

Re: That thread
So rocky, have you had a chance to "review the content" of that thread, as promised?
What is your verdict?

No, I've not.
Someone else, who has been inactive on nopesport for a number of years, seems to have woken up and moved it back. I've moved it again pending the promised review which I should have time for later today.

Re: That thread
OK, now reviewed.
In general the first three pages commenting on a publicly available news story were OK. I've reposted these. Since there is little left to say on this topic I've locked the thread.
The fourth page contained a number of personal attacks, implications and hearsay. This goes against our forum rules* and the offending posts have been removed, along with any posts in response to them which no longer made sense.
The fifth page moved on to a more general discussion of the culture within the GB squad over time. This is OK, but as it no longer specifically related to the original topic I've split it off to a new thread. This will be continue to be moderated and any further personal posts will be removed.
*In order to review the topic against an objective measure I went looking for our forum T's & C's. Unfortunately it seems the original posting of these was never made (or if it was has since been lost in the ether somewhere). I did however find a draft version within the moderators folders. It specifically forbids the use of these forums for personal attacks. We shall endeavour to (re)publish these rules soon.
