What I thought was an excellent bit of development work here from BOF -
http://www.forestry.gov.uk/gruffalo-orienteering
A course for kiddies at our local Bedgebury Forest which we successfully completed today with three grandchildren. A nice 'proper' orienteering map produced by Dan Riley, BO National Participation Manager, based on Roger Mayer's POC map, produced for the Forestry Commission there. We also got for our £1.50 a nice 'Gruffalo' leaflet - with a 'forestry themed' question to answer at each of the 12 control points; and a certificate for completing the course.
The leaflet suggests using the POC (4 colour-coded courses available, White-Light Green) if one enjoyed the Gruffalo course; and gave links to the BO website. Lots of posters around the visitor centre advertising the 'orienteering' course too. The staff there said that lots of people had been doing the course with their youngsters. Nice stuff!
