OMM2015
Not as many names easily recognisable from orienteering knocking around the tops of the classes this year - although feel free to prove me wrong, I don't know everybody! Are people getting soft?

For anyone put off by the 2014 map problems, this year's map was back up to the normal high standard and properly laminated.

One thing about the KIMM/OMM that I reckon makes it special is that over the years there has always been a good mix of orienteers, fell runners, hill walkers and adventure racers across the classes (plus the odd MM specialist of course!). The Swiss MM (SKIMM, MIMM, RadysMM) on the other hand has always seemed to be mostly orienteers.

Re: OMM2015
The map this year was much better, although the terrain was very rough in places.
Next year's entires are already open - apparently it'll be south of this year's event - so take your pick out of England then!
and seeing as Scotland have the SHI and JHI titles, the Elite podium was made up of 6 English runners

Re: OMM2015
In the 10 events since 2005 (Borrowdale was of course cancelled) there have been 19 different names on the trophy.
This is a stark contrast to the 90s with Mark winning loads and the 80s with Derek and Pete's 5 wins.
I heard talk of the courses being tough this year and 7 hours day 1 elite sounds a bit long; the day 2 times look very long though. Does anyone know the records for longest and shortest day 1s, day 2s or overall?
I seem to remember it was typically around 6:30 for day 1 and 5:30 for day 2 - 12 hours total. And something like 45 and 35 km. I think 1982 was one of the flatter ones and had about 90 km over the 2 days.

I hadn't realised that the OMM was a home international. If it was there was a serious lack of publicity...

You can't pick and choose, every race is a grudge match

I'd have re-worded your comment Ba=Ba. Beating the "locals" on their "home turf" is always something worth striving for.
BTW maybe you'll get selected for SHIs next year then ba-ba - rumours have it that the terrain is physical, the Planner likes long courses and the Controller is a former MM-lunatic! Watch out for the squirrels though - they sometimes go for the toenails.

There's already a Harvey's map of the island... just sayin.
Never been, and I'd love to visit. Mind you I've never done the OMM either and I'd love to do that.

I thought Harveys were out of favour with the OMM electorate? OTOH there is a town on the IoM called "Peel" (and there's also "Douglas" and "Ramsey" for those who know the family connection).
Anyway I was only joking about IoM. It would be nice to have one there though and of course I'd love to plan the courses. I know nearly ever nook and cranny of the high hills there!
