Very many thanks to Gabriella Walsh and her amazing team for organising a brilliant VHI over the weekend, centred on the small village of Pontrhydfendigaid in deepest West Wales ("two hours from anywhere ...").
It's not just a matter of planning two days of high level competition, there's accommodation to organise and a dinner to prepare too, and all done by a club with only a few dozen members too. We shouldn't forget either the considerable help from the Welsh Junior Squad who got a well-deserved ovation for their assistance with the meal and who provided hot drinks and cakes at each event.
England pipped Scotland by the arrow margin of 4 points in the Relays but were comfortable winners of the individual day, meaning a convincing victory overall:-
England 254
Scotland 223
Wales 149
Ireland 109

Re: VHI
It's interesting how quiet the Scots are about this result!
Normally there would be a lot of 'banter' about how they have rubbed the English noes in the mud.
Perhaps they are not good losers.

Not after the VHI. England have won for the last x years.
Not sure of the value of x, but getting bigger every year.

Re: VHI
Scotland's last (only?) overall win was back in 2008 in Ireland. There have been occasional wins in the individual competition and the relays were close this year after Scottish wins in both relay classes (MWM & WMW). Maybe next year!

Thanks for finding that out, sorry didn't mean to appear too lazy to google it myself. Plain lazy by name... etc.

It was easy, as a result of the good set of reports/results on the England Orienteering page.
