It's not often a new area pops up. Many thanks to DVO for getting Chinley Churn (near Whaley Bridge in the Peak District) mapped.
Paul Addison used his contacts to get permission and then planned some good courses for us yesterday. The areas has a mix of quarried gritstone and open runnable moorland with small contour features.
Views from parking and on the course extended to Manchester, Kinder, Shuttlingsloe among other places. In mist it would have been much more difficult. Well worth going to the next event there which I believe is already being thought about.
Did anyone else go and enjoy it?

Re: New Area - Chinley Churn
I never went but only because it didn't suit my plans for the day.
Credit to DVO for bringing a new area into use. I will certainly be going there in the future.
Interesting that DVO decided to have a Level C event with EOD (at £6) on a brand new area. I ended up 40 miles away at the SELOC level B event with limited EOD (at £13) instead. Turnout at the DVO event was good, not so good at SELOC. I wonder how much of this was due to the new area and how much the contrasting entry fees?
I still don't understand some clubs' mentality insisting on having their event at Level B. It certainly doesn't guarantee you a good entry.
I should say that I enjoyed the SELOC event and was happy to pay £13. But there again I'm an addict.

Ran across the CC old quarries last year and thought it'd be good for mapping. The rest of the hill was a bit more interesting than I anticipated as well! Having spent the first 18 years of my life looking out on the hill from my bedroom window it was good to O on it (have raced over it a few times).

Credit to Richard Parkin for the new base map.
The quarried area wasn't very wide, but there was plenty of interest and scope for mistakes. Apart from one small area of bracken and some boulder fields (avoidable if you were sensible - I wasn't) it was all runnable moorland. I'll definitely be back.

With five landowners and a whole lot of uncrossable walls, permissions and course planning were a challenge. So, yes, hats off to Mr Paul Addison for making it happen.

Enjoyed it, area was fine (once I found the start!) with great views in the sunny (thanks to starting later as I could not find the start!) weather. Thanks to DVO.
