Norway's Answer to 10mila and Jukola takes place 30km west of Oslo this weekend. Teams of between 4-8 (men), 3-6 (women) or 2-4 (juniors) race over 4/3/2 night legs (mass-start) on Friday night before the 4/3/2 day legs in a chasing-start format based on the night's results on Saturday Morning/lunchtime.
On the men's startlists are ShUOC Morning Glory and Guildford Orienteers.
Joe Woodley and Dane Blomquist (I presume Speaky also) are running for Lillomarka teams. Ralph Street runs for SNO and Scotia for TuMe according to current startlists.
There's then a banquet on Saturday night and a mass-start race on the Sunday.

Re: NightHawk 2015
Congratulations to Helen Palmer, 4th leg of the winning Halden team, Night Hawk Women 2015.
The format of all the night legs together and then a restart next day seems to be working well, although I don't expect Norway's relay will ever be anything like the size of its Swedish and Finnish cousins. It does make the night part even less of a spectator event, but (I read) it's a good deal of fun for the runners, and makes for a more sociable weekend.
Well done ShUOC for 33rd place in the Men's: Nic Barber, Matt Elkington, Jonny Crickmore and, it says here, Roary McTavistock, each running a night and day leg.
BTW was there a quarantine?

Re: NightHawk 2015
Great atmosphere and plenty of spectators cheering at the night legs. The format makes it even more spectator friendly since if you are not running a night leg yourself you can spectate the entire night spectacle and get a full night sleep before your day leg. Ever been in the 10mila arena in the middle of the cold night? Very few there to cheer! Even in the morning it's usually a pretty bleak bleary eyed crowd cheering the winning team in. Nighthawk night leg atmosphere is cosy & supersocial by comparison even if the event cannot claim to be a rival of 10mila & Jukola in terms of scale or status.
If you are lucky enough to be selected to run night or both night AND day then the experience is even more incredible. Especially for us ladies who rarely get to taste the flavour of a big mass start night race (and with all the guys waiting to start watching & cheering by the side.. This is an attention whore's dream). The night legs start remotely to avoid too much terrain overlap. No quarantine but a stated fairplay rule that day leg runners should not watch the tracking of preceeding day legs on Mobil devices before their legs. Most orienteers abide by most unpoliced fair play rules like terrain embargoes etc.
This year the orienteering challenges at NH were of high quality. Physically and technically demanding courses.
I can't comment on the party since it was described as "jukola boat on land" which sounded horrific so I made other plans!
Next years event will be held in Lillomarka (epic terrain, best around Oslo imo) the weekend before WOC starts in Strømstad. Ideal to combine Nighthawk participation with training opportunities or holiday in Norway or Sweden and then spectate at WOC. Get your clubmates motivated right now for the trip of a lifetime!

Re: NightHawk 2015
Cracking event. Really good fun and great to experience a mass-start night leg - I found the night 'easier' than the day as there were so many people around and I couldn't see the crap I was running through.
Roary McTavistock was a placeholder for actual people we got to run ('Roary' being the mascot for Sheffield's sports club night)
I can't comment on the party. I was there in body and far too much spirit only.

Re: NightHawk 2015
Further British performances:
Ralph Street ran leg 5 (first day leg) for SNO, gaining 30s and 2 places (4th to 2nd). Team finished 2nd
Rich Robinson ran leg 6 for Ravinen 1. It was a tough day out there, losing nearly 10 minutes and the lead. Team finished 4th.
Scotia ran Leg 6 for TuMe. Team finished 5th, Scott 5th on Leg
Kris Jones and Speaky both ran day and night legs for Lillomarka 1, team finishing 7th. Matt running as Batman in the day before heading off to his Stag Do.
Alan Cherry ran long night and last day leg for Varegg, team finishing 18th (and first home from the mass-start)
Joe Woodley (D&N) and Dane Blomquist (N) ran for Lillomarka 2 (team 20th, 1st 2nd team)
I believe Helen was the only brit in action in the women's race, as has already been mentioned
