If you are thinking of designing a new logo for your event or club read on.
A famous graphic designer, Paul Rand, came up with a seven stage test a logo design:
- Is it distinctive?
- Is it visible?
- Is it adaptable?
- Is it memorable?
- Is it universal?
- Is it timeless?
- Then, when you have said “yes” to everything above, ask this final question: is it simple?
You can more about the seven tests here
We use logos in a variety of places and at different sizes, so consider all of them when you look at a logo design.
Is the logo readable when it's tiny, and does it look good and sharp when enormous (like on a banner)?
Can it print on a T-shirt of any colour?
Does it work in black & white or one colour?
Square or round are good, as they fit almost anywhere, but you could have variations based on a single concept, see examples below.
The original logo
I'd like to stress that I am not a designer, I can tweak existing artwork or use it as a base, but can't draw something up from scratch. The example above was inspired by the old logo that had a fox, but I thought it looked dated, so I went looking for artwork of a fox and then modified it.
