I thought the coverage of the sprint final was very good, especially the "time ahead/behind" as the runners were approaching controls. I wonder why the put the start of the programme back by 15 minutes, though: caused me some confusion as the programme guide still had it starting at 16:45. BBC Alba website had the correct info but still thought it was the original 2:15 long!
Did anyone else spot the glitch with the GPS in the women's race? About 47 minutes in, they showed the GPS traces for the three leaders but against the men's rather than ladies' course, which made me think they'd all missed control 8!

I thought today's coverage was excellent too. Looks like there's nothing to watch until Tuesday now, will have to decide if it's worth paying 10 euros for the GPS widgets that I can't work properly.
I thought they'd put the start back because it was longer than expected yesterday and they didn't want to miss seeing who won. Meant I cut my gym session short as I couldn't remember whether it was 3.45 or 4 45 so came back early. More time to sit and drink beer though!

I have sent in my appreciation form. I'm a spectator now and really enjoyed the coverage.
Well done all, and a big for the running cameraman.

I enjoyed the TV sprint coverage too, it was an excellent, professional presentation that did manage to get excitement and continual interest from an orienteering event.
But does anyone know what went wrong with Kris Jones' timing? It looks like the system had his start time a minute out (understand this was at arena too), so it looked like he was a minute down; he was thus ignored all the way though, announced as 30th finisher then suddenly appeared as 8th on the next listing.

I second that - it looks like a really difficult thing to do. How you keep up with the competitor while pointing the camera in the right direction and not go 'a over t' I really don't know!
I'm presuming there's a team of cameramen lurking at various vantage points ready to give chase - works well anyway.

Coverage was good.... only comment was they could have cut to the last control for the interesting runners rather than just the last bit of the run in... you could hear Lorna saying 'so & so's' at the last control.
I noticed Emmmahhh wasn't running so well

The coverage is filmed by a Czech TV crew. They have worked with previous orienteering events, including last year's in Italy, and will be doing the same at next year's WOC in Sweden. The running cameraman has a simple GoPro with a 10cm aerial so it's relatively easy to carry and point at the runner. It was interesting to watch them them doing their practice spurts earlier in the afternoon

Excellent, I hadn't realised he finished 8th, I thought he finished below Scott and Murray as I just saw the provisional TV results. Well done.

The guy filming the garden and up the steps control has a big camera on a long cable with a lad letting it out and reeling it in. He put the camera right over the control then back pedalled fast as the runners approached, with the lad frantically pulling in cable .a couple of times as I watched i thought he would tangle either himself or trip the runner but no, all good, it was a joy to watch. I noticed with the faster men he backed off earlier and didn't try to run after them...he was probably shattered by then.
Shame about the commentary on Chris, they said early he seemed to be off the pace a bit, could,t fathom what they meant, all clear now, and probably he won,t care but a shame for the TV coverage to ignore the best GB run.

It's still the BBC paid for by licence payers few of whom speak Gaelic even up here.
I don't know their funding model, but as I understand it their remit/funding/grants is to provide Gaelic TV. Of course, had it been shown on BBC Scotland then you *wouldn't* have been able to watch it live if you lived outwith Scotland, even on iplayer (although if anyone knows the jiggery pokery that will allow this then please let me know as the big Shinty finals are on BBC Scotland and I can't watch them live).

At times it almost looked like they were helping some of them by running in front and showing them the way to go!

I'm guessing they can only go with the information they are given - well done to Kris though, great performance.

I bought the WOC ticket as am off this afternoon. Really impressed with the live TV will see if I can master the GPS widgets although on first sight it looks straight forward Jessica Tullie has started but isn't showing up on my map yet
