Model events

Sorry for my ignorance.. (am I the only one?) As usual, the WOC programme is littered with "model events" but I have to admit I've never known what they are and who takes part in them.

They are for the WOC teams, typically a few controls on a small area. The purpose is to show foreign athletes how our maps and forest looks, how we map scottish-specific stuff, what green, vertical stripes represent and how big a feature has to be to make the map.
No timing or even courses.
