A couple of Emit touch free issues you should be aware of.
At the first event I ran using Emit Touch Free units the last control did not register. It seems that in my haste to get to the finish I did not hold the tag long enough in front of the control. I was told the units were using a low power mode which meant the communication time was somewhat longer but I can't see this option mentioned in the notes I read. http://orienteering.org/user-instructions-for-emit-touch-free-system-available/
At another (BAOC) event there was a clothing dump near the start. After finishing the course I went back to retrive something from the dump and my tag flashed as I passed the start box. The card registered the finish correctly and the start was recorded as an extra control. When the results were produced my running time was based on the time at the extra control rather than at the finish.
Neither of these problems should occur at major events.
With regard to the "opposition" I think my Sportident Type 5 is now much slower than it used to be!!

Re: Emit touch free issues
I seem to remember an issue when it was used at an urban event in Southampton a couple of years ago: something like going too close to the start after finishing or vice versa, which I think reset the card. Maybe someone from SOC can remember the details.

Re: Emit touch free issues
My recollection is the Clear being hastily repositioned to stop people passing it between Finish and download.

The issue arose elsewhere, I think. We were aware of the potential problem, adjusted the position of the start unit slightly, and moved a couple of controls to take out a possible route choice via the start. The danger point comes after the last start, when the start unit is helpfully returned to the Emit guys on download!
