Re: British Sprint and Middle Champs
I would like to thank the organisers and planner(s) for today's event. I really enjoyed both the heats and finals. An excellent area, (and no vandals to steal controls!!)
I'm sure there will be more comments concerning the touch free technology, which I thought worked well for the last control and finish and less queues at busy controls, but have doubts over the issues of MPs of which there were many. A quick check of some previous Sprint Events are:
.............................Runs... MPs/DSQ
BSOC 2013 (Finals)......746........24............3.2%
JK 2014...................2170.......115..........5.3%
BSOC 2015 (FInals)......759........70...........9.2%
Some comments heard before the finals suggested there were various issues. Hopefully BOF can fully investigate these before this or similar systems are used for such major events in future, but 3x the number compared to 2013 does seem very high.

Of course, lack of familiarity with the system by the competitors would be part of the reason. We were strongly advised to check for the flash on your tag. If people are convinced that they saw the flash and still had a mispunch then I agree that it is a technical issue. If they did not, then it could be the competitor's fault.

Re: British Sprint and Middle Champs
I left before prize giving today but from Rob Lines' photos it looks as though they might have got the elite medallists wrong again. For example Matt Elkington should have won M21 Silver as well as M20 Gold, Ali Masson M20 Bronze as well as M18 Gold etc.

Note that this rule only applies to elites ie Clive Hallett doesn't get M45 Silver as well as M50 Gold. Whatever we might think about these rules it would be good to either follow them or change them.

Be aware that is not sufficient to check for the flash. My tag was flashing after visiting the last control and I still got DQed. Turns out I punched/waved too fast, and it was still flashing because it was <10 sec after the previous control (complaint rejected).

Re: British Sprint and Middle Champs
In some ways, nothing much has changed in the last 8 years. At the Scottish 6 Days in 2007, a version of touch-free Emit was used at the Sprint in Kingussie.
Many of the non-Elite runners headed for the wrong penultimate control, a very obvious tree, rather than the tree they should have been dibbing. If they had their Emit brikke on their left hand, they inadvertantly dibbed the correct control as they passed and were OK. If they had their Emit brikke on their right hand, it was too far from the correct control and they were initially DQ'd. Subsequently they were all reinstated.

Re: British Sprint and Middle Champs
And at the British Sprints in the snow at Warwick University in 2008, I watched a number of competitors in the final look at their Emit brikke (the old fashioned variety) at the finish, see the scrolling bars and think that they had punched the finish control. It was only at download, some distance away, that they found out that the bars were still scrolling from the previous control, which was very close, and that they hadn't registered at the finish control.
I'm very old and boring, but I like SI.
