This year's championships seem to be keeping a low profile - just the usual debate on fees in an earlier thread.
The JK is going to be a very hard act to follow, but the weather looks to be set fair again and the Forest of Dean is always a pleasure to run through. Nice to see the Scottish Elite Squad coming down to boost the elite classes.
I'm assuming its timed starts but I couldn't see that confirmed in the final details, anyone know?
Also how are the separate Finish Arena / Assembly expected to work? The Finish Arena has club tents and download, but no traders and only 3 toilets. There's an elite spectator control, but I didn't see a PA/ commentary mentioned. Where are Nopesters planning to hang out on the day?

Re: British Championships
Could be tight this year, Predictions anyone? I'll go with housewife and gg.
Can anyone stop all the 21E medals from heading back to Scotland?
Looking forward to a double-dose of graeme vs buzz, with our sneaky Oleg-replacement in the M50 relay.

Meant to add - yes there is commentary Buzz.
GG looks like he's on good form if the JK was anything to go by. Doug wasn't far behind though at the JK. Could give him a run for his medal.

I've got to make the team first which isn't going to be easy - Homer's a shoe in - Tett's limping faster than me, and then there's Aidan's dad who keeps turning up at my coaching sessions.

Aidan's dad, who was in the winning M40 team last year?
Sounds like SYO M50 is a tough team to get into - good luck!

To those not, there'll be live results at http://www.cix.co.uk/~neper/live-o.htm and I'll be on BOKs twitter @BristolOK should you wish to keep up! (mobile signal permitting)

Q. What's do you call a drainage ditch/gully/dutch without water?
A. Not on my map.
(Look at the 2nd to last control times for example)

Re: British Championships
A glorious, glorious day in the woods - decent courses I thought and nice event arena and atmosphere. Hard work despite it being pretty runnable - this is where all that training pays off (or lack of training shows in my case).
The only thing I didn't like was the map. It was "generalised" which I experienced as "a lot of stuff missing off the map and it's not obvious what is on and what isn't". Ditches were the worst, lots of big ones not mapped, whereas others were. Ditto depressions and some paths too.

All maps are 'generalised' otherwise they would be unreadable (in the extreme the mapper could choose to map every tree with the distinctive tree symbol), part of the skill of orienteering is choosing which information to use for any given leg. The event details were clear that many small ditches, pits etc were not mapped. I did think the contours were a bit iffy in places although it looks like the recent update didn't touch them.
It is, of course, incumbent on the planner to set a course which doesn't rely on ambiguous features. I thought the planning at the individual fell short in this respect, but the relay planning was superb making the most of a relatively straightforward area.
